„The reader“, „the grand Budaoest Hotel“, „inglorious Basterds“ – in the past years, Görlitz was the setting of many blockbusters. Germanys most eastern city has developed into a international successful filming location. Stars like Ralph Fiennes, Jude Law, Adrien Brody, Jeff Goldblum, Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, Jackie Chan or Geoffrey Rush shooted a film at the Neisse.
Görlitz is also known as „Görliwood“ since many productions were made with the help of Hollywood. 2017 Görlitz won the first „European Film Location Award oft he Decades“.
Producers and directors love Görlitz because of it’s architecture and the original structure. The city at the German- Polish border fascinates with its almost undestroyed historical buildings from the gothic -, renaissance -, Baroque, and other periods. There is a special sightseeing tour called “film ab” that shows Görlitz as a film set.
